Transformative Global Learning: Highlights from the 2025 Costa Rica J-Term Program
The Center for International Business proudly wrapped up its third successful Costa Rica J-Term Program in January 2025, providing students with an extraordinary blend of academic engagement, cultural exploration, and professional development.
Led by Faculty Advisor Dr. Alessandro Braga, the program immersed students in Costa Rica’s dynamic economic landscape and global business environment over an enriching 10-day experience.
The journey began in San José with a welcome dinner at the iconic La Casona de Laly, setting the stage for an unforgettable educational adventure. Students explored the natural wonders of Costa Rica through visits to the Irazú and Poás volcanoes, the Lankester Botanical Garden, and a coffee tour at Starbucks’ renowned Hacienda Alsacia.
The academic core of the program featured a high-impact seminar by Dr. Braga titled “Foreign Direct Investment and Multinational Enterprises: The Transformational Experience of Costa Rica,” complemented by expert-led sessions at CINDE (Costa Rica’s Investment Promotion Agency) and corporate site visits. These included leading firms like VIANT Medical, BOSTON SCIENTIFIC, SAMTEC, and FORTECH—giving students firsthand insight into the country’s thriving medical technology and manufacturing sectors.
Cultural highlights included a day trip to Jacó Beach, a tour of the historic San Jose city center. The program concluded in style with an elegant gala dinner at Le Chandelier, a celebrated San José restaurant, where students and faculty reflected on the meaningful experiences and lasting friendships forged during the trip.
This year’s Costa Rica J-Term exemplified the Center's mission to develop globally-minded business leaders. By combining academic rigor with real-world learning, the program continues to equip students with the cross-cultural skills and strategic insight needed in today’s interconnected economy.
